What does the Reconnect Programme involve?
Reconnect offers small, age‑appropriate group programmes as well as tailored individual support. Each strand of the programme is designed to help children and young people explore their feelings, learn healthy strategies, and grow in confidence at a pace that feels right for them.
- 8 -week Recovery Programmes (Face‑to‑Face Groups)
- Held weekly across localities in Cornwall
- These supportive groups are kept intentionally small – with a maximum of five participants allowing each child or young person to feel safe, heard, and individually supported
- Online Support – for young people unable to attend face‑to‑face support
This programme helps children/young people:
- Build self‑esteem
- Understand their experiences
- Express feelings safely
- Develop positive communication skills
- Strengthen resilience
Who is the Reconnect Programme for?
- Primary-aged children (5–10 years)
- Secondary aged young people (11–15 years)
- Have experienced domestic abuse
- Children who agree that they would like support
- Are not currently receiving therapy for domestic‑abuse‑related issues
- Are not living with the abusive parent
Sibling Participation: Where possible, siblings will be placed in separate groups, ensuring everyone has space for their own voice and experience.
Before joining, the parent completes a friendly and informal assessment conversation with a Children’s/YP worker. This helps us understand the child/young person’s needs and goals, and ensures the programme is the right fit for them.
