Level Two: Expanded Knowledge

Our Level Two training courses are for professionals in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who work with children, families and individuals and require expanded knowledge in Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (DASV).

At the foundation of all DASV training is an understanding and awareness of controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship. Barnardo’s Safer Futures recognise that people are affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence exist in all areas of society. We provide training for all professionals across all sectors.

Level Two Training Courses

Level Two: Understanding Coercive Control

For Practitioners expanding their knowledge and practice to effectively identify and support people experiencing Coercive Control.

This level two course is aimed at people who are working directly with people affected by domestic abuse, who want to further develop their knowledge and understanding of how Coercive control effects those who experience it, how to appropriately respond to and engage with individuals and families and understand how to identify risk in the context of Coercive Control.

Covered within this course is further exploration of the topics covered in level one and an introduction to additional topics. This includes:

Prevalence of domestic abuse and the gender dynamic
The impact that coercive control has on victims, including young people, parenting, people in later life and families and to be able to recognise the signs and indicators of Coercive Control
Stalking and harassment
How to respond appropriately to victims

It is recommended if you don’t have any previous training or professional experience of working with domestic abuse and sexual violence, that you first attend our Level One Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Training course.

Level Two: Children and Domestic Abuse - Victims in their own right

Learn how Coercive Control impacts on parenting, child development and safety, including providing tools for safeguarding and recovery.

This course is for professionals working with families, parents and children who are affected by domestic abuse. The course focuses on how domestic abuse, in particular Coercive control impacts both parents and children combining theory and evidenced based practice on how we can best respond to and work with families affected by domestic abuse. Prior to enrolling it is a condition that professionals have a working knowledge of what domestic abuse and how it impacts on individuals. You will have completed previous Domestic Abuse training.

The aims of this 1-day, interactive course are to:

Increase skills to identify domestic abuse as a lived experience of children and young people
Increase understanding of how the non-harming parent and children experience Coercive Control
Develop skills and knowledge on how to assess risk/harm in the context of Domestic Abuse for families Including counter allegations
Increase awareness of effective tools to engage and safeguard families who are experiencing Domestic Abuse

Level Two: Courageous Conversations

In this course you will learn the tools to engage in Domestic Abuse Routine Enquiry.
