Safer Futures is a Domestic Abuse Service supporting anyone affected by domestic abuse across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. This service is operated through a partnership between First Light and Barnardo’s, providing a range of specialist services and funded by Safer Cornwall.
Since our launch in July 2018, Safer Futures has been dedicated to supporting anyone impacted by domestic abuse and sexual violence in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We are a friendly and welcoming service, committed to helping everyone, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, or religion.

Our Mission
Safer Futures, delivered by First Light in partnership with Barnardo’s and funded by Safer Cornwall, aims to provide individuals with the advice and support they need to feel safe and recover from the effects of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Our goal is to end domestic abuse and sexual violence in our community.
Our Services
We offer a range of comprehensive support programmes, accessible through our domestic abuse helpline (0300 777 4777) and online referral form. For sexual violence support, you can reach out to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre provided by the NHS (0300 303 4626) or use their online referral.
Our Impact
We believe there are around 20,000 victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence in our region, yet only a fraction report their abuse. Safer Futures supports over 10,000 people annually, and our vision is to reach even more victims and survivors, providing them with the support they need while educating the community to prevent abuse.
Education and Training
To achieve our mission, we educate children and young people in schools across Cornwall, helping them recognise the signs of abuse and develop healthy relationships. We also train professionals to intervene early and provide the right support.
Our Commitment
Safer Futures will continue to develop and deliver programmes that support our community, from crisis intervention to understanding and addressing abusive behaviour.
