£10,000 raised to set up a Crisis Fund for women and girls fleeing domestic abuse
We have raised over £10,000 to set up a Crisis Fund for Women & Girls Fleeing Domestic Abuse, thanks to your kind donations.
We aimed to raise £10,000 to establish this Crisis Fund (£5,000 in online donations, which were then matched by The Big Give).
Domestic abuse affects 1 in 3 women during their lifetime, and First Light is seeing a significant increase in high-risk families seeking support during extremely challenging moments.
The campaign week ran from 12pm, Thursday 10th October 2024, to 12pm, Thursday 17th October 2024. Thanks to The Big Give, any online donations made to First Light during that week were doubled.
The money raised through this match fund campaign has allowed us to set up a Crisis Fund. This fund has enabled us to provide women and their families with essential safety equipment, such as mobile phones, letterbox locks, and camera doorbells; support with moving costs; and provide clothing and other items when they’ve had to leave their homes with nothing.
Having immediate funding available for people fleeing domestic abuse is crucial:
- Providing toiletries, travel, food, and clothing keeps individuals and families safe.
- A mobile phone ensures that someone fleeing their abuser can do so without the worry of being tracked or harassed by phone calls and text messages.
- Providing a train ticket or taxi fare to those without their own transport means that individuals can flee more easily.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped fundraise during the campaign, everyone who donated, and everyone who got involved to make this possible. The crisis funding has already helped women and girls flee abuse, and it would not have been possible without you.
