Family Domestic Abuse Support Advisors (Family DASA)
Supporting Families Affected by Domestic Abuse
When domestic abuse affects a child’s welfare and safety, our Family Domestic Abuse Support Advisors (Family DASAs) provide specialist support to ensure children and families receive the help they need.
What is a Family Domestic Abuse Support Advisor (Family DASA)?
Our Family DASAs are embedded within Family Assessment and Support (FAS) teams across Social Care in Cornwall. They provide expert advice and guidance whenever domestic abuse is identified as a factor impacting a child, regardless of risk level—whether current or historic.
How Family DASAs Support Families
- Tailored support for families – Flexible, needs-based assistance for parents and caregivers.
- Amplifying children’s voices – Ensuring children affected by domestic abuse are heard and supported.
- Reducing generational domestic abuse – Helping break the cycle of abuse to protect future generations.
- Collaboration with social care teams – Partnering with children’s social workers to safeguard children.
Our Focus Areas
- Building relationships with families to empower positive change and improve outcomes for children.
- Providing a single point of contact for domestic abuse guidance within the FAS teams.
- Conducting risk assessments and referring families to Safer Cornwall Domestic Abuse Services.
- Direct support for families, contributing to social work assessments and child protection plans.

- Developing intervention plans to increase family safety and reduce risk.
- Working alongside other organisations to deliver a comprehensive package of support.
- Attending professionals’ meetings to advocate for families impacted by domestic abuse.
Ensuring Children’s Voices Are Heard
Children are victims of domestic abuse in their own right. Family DASAs work to minimise the physical, emotional, and psychological harm caused by living in an abusive home. We partner with social care professionals to ensure children have a voice in decisions that affect their safety and well-being.
