Why Early Intervention Training Matters

Domestic abuse and sexual violence impact individuals and families across all areas of society. Early intervention is crucial to ensuring professionals can identify, respond to, and support those affected. Our professional training courses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are designed to equip professionals across all sectors with the necessary skills and knowledge to make a real difference.

Comprehensive Training for Professionals

We offer a structured, tiered approach to domestic abuse and sexual violence early intervention training, ensuring accessibility for professionals at all levels of expertise. Our training incorporates a Think Family Approach, recognising that domestic abuse affects not just individuals but entire households and communities.

Level 1: Awareness Raising (Half-Day)

This introductory course is designed for professionals with little or no prior training in domestic abuse and sexual violence. It provides an essential foundation for understanding the scope of abuse, its impact, and initial steps for appropriate intervention. This training is particularly useful for those who may work indirectly with individuals affected by abuse.

Level 2: Targeted Training (Full-Day)

This course builds on Level 1 and is aimed at professionals who work directly with individuals affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. Participants will gain deeper insight into the complexities of abuse, how to respond effectively, and how to refer individuals to local support services.

Level 3: Specialist Training (Full-Day)

Aimed at professionals in health, social care, criminal justice, and education settings, this course focuses on the Domestic Abuse Stalking and Honour-Based Abuse (DASH) risk assessment tool. Participants will learn how to complete the DASH risk indicator checklist, assess risk levels, and respond appropriately to disclosures of abuse. This training is essential for safeguarding professionals who have direct responsibility for handling cases of domestic abuse.

Courageous Conversations (Routine Enquiry)

This half-day course is designed to help professionals in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly develop the confidence and skills to engage in meaningful conversations with individuals affected by domestic abuse. By equipping professionals with the right approach, we can help ensure that disclosures are handled sensitively and effectively.

Additional Training Opportunities

We offer further specialised training on:

  • Coercive Control: Understanding and identifying controlling behaviours that may not always involve physical violence.
  • Assessing Who is Causing Harm: Equipping professionals with the tools to assess and address the behaviour of individuals causing harm within relationships.
  • Bystander training: Teaching individuals how to recognise potentially harmful situations, safely intervene, and support those at risk.

Get Involved

Our early intervention training courses are open to all professionals in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who want to enhance their knowledge and ability to respond effectively to domestic abuse and sexual violence. Investing in professional development not only benefits individual practitioners but also strengthens community responses to abuse.
