Support for the LGBTQ+ Community

At Safer Futures, we know that LGBTQ+ people are at higher risk of domestic abuse and sexual violence, and can face unique barriers when reaching out for help. Fear of not being believed, worries about discrimination, or being ‘outed’ without consent can all make it harder to find safe and understanding support.

Our services are inclusive and open to everyone, no matter your gender identity or sexuality. We provide specialist LGBTQ+ support in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Our trained staff understand the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ survivors and work to break down barriers so you feel safe, listened to, and supported.

Why specialist LGBTQ+ support matters

Research shows that LGBTQ+ people can face:

  • Higher levels of domestic abuse and sexual violence compared to the wider population
  • Additional risks such as threats of being ‘outed’ by a partner or abuser
  • Fears of prejudice or lack of understanding when accessing mainstream services
  • Isolation from family or communities, making it harder to seek help

We work closely with other LGBTQ+ organisations to make sure our support meets the needs of the community and helps you feel understood and respected.

Support for Family and Friends

If you’re a family member, friend, or partner worried about someone in the LGBTQ+ community who may be experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence, you can also reach out to us for guidance. Our team can help you understand the risks, know what to say, and learn how best to support your loved one safely.
