In a bustling gathering filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and fresh croissants, Barnardo’s Safer Futures recently welcomed over 60 professionals from a diverse array of agencies and organizations. Held on Friday, April 19th, this event served as a vibrant platform for attendees to explore the transformative initiatives offered by Barnardo’s while forging valuable connections within Cornwall’s professional community.

Amidst animated conversations and shared insights, attendees delved into Barnardo’s Change 4U three-tier approach, gaining valuable insights into programmes such as The Healthy Relationships Foundations Programme, Behaviour Change Programme, Integrated Offender Management Programme, Partner Support, and Partner Drop-ins. Additionally, discussions centred on the range of training opportunities available through the Safer Streets contract, including Bystander training tailored for both community members and professionals, along with the Healthy Relationships Foundations Programme train-the-trainer sessions.

Representatives from a diverse spectrum of organizations, including the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), Safer Cornwall, Intercom Trust, Chaos, Live West, WILD, NHS, Pegasus, With You (WAWY), Kernow Young Carers, Exceed, Cornwall Council, Healthy Cornwall, Ansom Homes, First Light, Falmouth University, and The Dracaena Centre, contributed to the richness of the event. Their presence underscored a shared commitment to enhancing client care, development, and wellbeing across Cornwall.

The gathering was not only an opportunity to learn about Barnardo’s services but also to foster meaningful connections among professionals. Linda Austin, IOM Behaviour Change Worker at Barnardo’s Safer Futures, encapsulated the sentiment, saying, “It was heartwarming to speak to so many professionals who have a passion for the work they do, and the support they provide… it feels we are all truly making a difference in Cornwall.”

Throughout the venue, posters surrounded the room and were also placed on the tables, showcasing powerful testimonials from clients whose lives had been positively impacted by Barnardo’s Safer Futures programmes. These personal accounts served as poignant reminders of the tangible difference made by the organization’s interventions.

A highlight of the morning was the presence of a Change 4U client who shared firsthand the transformative support received through the programme. Their story resonated deeply, highlighting the real-world impact of Barnardo’s initiatives.

Reflecting on the event, Danny Byrne, Senior Lead Change 4U and Training Coordinator at Barnardo’s Safer Futures, remarked, “This event served as a fantastic opportunity for professionals to take some time out from their busy schedules to learn about our programmes and interventions, but also for us all to come together as people and organisations that have a vital interest in the wellbeing of our clients in Cornwall.”

Information was also provided about our RECONNECT and RECONNECT Respect programmes for children aged 8 to 18.

Barnardo’s extends heartfelt gratitude to all staff members who played a pivotal role in bringing the event to fruition, including Laura, Linda, Fleur, Suzanne, Carly, Sarah, Norma and Emma from Safer Futures, and Oliver from Safer Cornwall.

The coffee and croissants morning hosted by Barnardo’s Safer Futures stands as a shining example of the power of collaboration and community engagement in driving positive change. As professionals continue to unite in their unwavering commitment to client welfare, the ripple effects of their collective efforts will undoubtedly create a safer, healthier, and more supportive environment for Cornwall.
